Drake Music is delighted to announce that Youth Music has committed funding to our programme Digital Beginnings.

Digital Beginnings aims to create new opportunities for disabled children in six schools across London, South West, North West and the East Midlands to participate and engage with making music using assistive technology. Digital Beginnings in London has already started as Connecting Across Difference, our current London Season, is part of it.

The programme creates opportunities within SEN schools and mainstream school with SEN students, to engage children in cutting edge creative work which will not only be of the highest standard but will also develop physical, emotional and social skills.

The project aims to
• introduce students and SEN schools to music making via assistive music technology
• demonstrate what is possible artistically and personally
• provide training in assistive music technology and workshop delivery for six trainee music leader

The students will
• gain an understanding of musical genres
• learn basic elements of beat
• experience playing as part of a group
• compose a piece for performance
• perform a piece for an audience
• increase social interaction skills
• gain self confidence and improved concentration
